49ers nab George Kittle at 146th overall
The San Francisco 49ers selected Iowa Hawkeyes tight end George Kittle with the 146th overall pick in the 2017 NFL draft.
Kittle stands 6'4", 247 pounds and was a two-year starter for the Hawkeyes. A wideout and safety in high school, Kittle may offer more upside than his college stats suggest; he is an exceptional athlete with 4.52 speed, an incredible 35-inch vertical and 11'0" broad jump numbers. The addition further hints at Vance McDonald's shaky roster security despite last year's pricey contract extension.
Kittle left Iowa with a career 737 receiving yards on 48 receptions (15.4 yards per reception) with 10 touchdowns while blocking on most of his snaps. Pro Football Focus charted Kittle with just one quarterback pressure allowed over his final two seasons as a blocker.
