The Denver Broncos selected Michigan tight end Jake Butt with the 145th overall pick in the 2017 NFL draft.
The 6'6", 246-pound Butt made 37 starts for the Wolverines, earning the 2016 Mackey Award as college football’s top tight end. When healthy, Butt is a traditional in-line tight end with reliable hands and adequate blocking ability. Butt may be forced to "redshirt" his rookie year due to re-tearing his right ACL in December’s Orange Bowl, but he has a chance to develop into a starter capable of staying on the field all three downs.
Butt brought in a career 1,646 receiving yards on 138 catches (11.9 yards per reception) and 11 touchdowns at Michigan. Health pending, he'll likely be the heir to Virgil Green's starting job, and Butt's presence could make Jeff Heuerman expendable.
