The Washington Redskins selected Oklahoma running back Samaje Perine with the 114th overall pick in the 2017 NFL draft.
Perine was a change of pace back behind Joe Mixon and in three seasons, he broke Billy Sims' all-time rushing record at Oklahoma. He doesn't have much athleticism and ran only a 4.65 40-yard dash at the Combine. However, he should compete with Rob Kelley for touches in Washington's backfield and could mean no more Matt Jones.
Perine rushed for 4,122 rushing yards with 49 touchdowns and 6.0 yards per carry over three seasons. He added 321 receiving yards on 40 catches with two more touchdowns through the air.
