Chargers take Forrest Lamp at 38th pick of draft
The Los Angeles Chargers selected Western Kentucky offensive guard Forrest Lamp with the 38th overall pick in the 2017 NFL draft.
Lamp was a four-year starter on the Hilltoppers’ line, briefly playing right guard before moving to left tackle after three games and manning the blindside the rest of his career. Lamp’s likeliest NFL position is on the interior, but it wouldn’t be shocking if he stayed at tackle, given how much he's proven there. Lamp's 32 1/4" arms make him a tough fit, but his massive hands and second-highest SPARQ score among offensive linemen at the Combine make him an intriguing tackle prospect.
Lamp will help running back Melvin Gordon, who was 26th-best in Rushing Net Expected Points (NEP) per attempt last year among the 42 running backs to attempt at least 100 rushes in 2016.
