Cardinals swap four picks to get Budda Baker in second round
The Arizona Cardinals traded up with the Chicago Bears to select Washington defensive back Budda Baker with the 36th overall pick in the 2017 NFL draft.
Baker started all 41 of Washington's games, earning first-team All-American honors as a 2016 junior before turning pro. He terrorized Pac-12 offenses on blitzes and erased the slot on passing downs, compensating for his size with instincts, dynamic play speed, and efficient tackling. The secondary player blazed a 4.45 40-yard dash at the Combine. Baker projects as a slot corner-free safety hybrid -- a poor man's version of Tyrann Mathieu.
Baker tallied 13.5 career tackles for loss, 5 interceptions, 4 sacks and 3 forced fumbles. The Cardinals' secondary ranked ninth-best in Adjusted Defensive Passing Net Expected Points per play in 2016.
