Saints not ruling out Day 2 trade for Patriots' Malcolm Butler
The New Orleans Saints are considering making a trade on Friday night for a veteran cornerback.
Head coach Sean Payton refused to rule out a trade for New England Patriots cornerback Malcolm Butler or Los Angeles Rams cornerback Trumaine Johnson. This comes less than 24 hours after the Saints used the 11th overall pick on Marshon Lattimore. Acquiring Butler seemed inevitable for New Orleans at one point, but talks have broken down and Butler hurt his chances of being traded by waiting too long to sign his restricted free agent tender.
Either Butler or Johnson would upgrade a New Orleans secondary that was third-worst in the NFL last season in schedule-adjusted Defensive Passing Net Expected Points allowed per play.
