Patriots refused Browns' last-ditch attempt to trade for Jimmy Garoppolo
The Cleveland Browns made a last-ditch effort to acquire New England Patriots quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo on Thursday night but were again rebuffed, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Nobody has pushed harder for a Garoppolo trade than the Browns, but the Patriots continue to stonewall them. If franchise passer Tom Brady really plans on playing for another three or four years, it makes little sense to stash Garoppolo, who is sure to leave in free agency next offseason. The Browns are in dire need of a franchise quarterback but passed up both Mitchell Trubisky at 1 and Deshaun Watson at 12 in favor of value.
If Garoppolo had qualified, his 0.44 Passing Net Expected Points (NEP) per drop back would have ranked first among all quarterbacks with at least 100 drop backs in 2016.
