Washington satisfied with backfield, unimpressed with Matt Jones
Washington head coach Jay Gruden "acknowledged" running back Matt Jones is "still on the roster" but "didn't have much good to say about him."
Gruden instead praised Rob Kelley and third-down back Chris Thompson and former undrafted free agent Mack Brown, suggesting he doesn't see a tremendous need at the position. Jones is likely battling for a roster spot this summer, and right now appears to be on the outside looking in. Jones could be a goner this offseason.
On 99 rushes in 2016, Jones racked up -0.03 Rushing Net Expected Points per attempt. Among the 42 rushers to get at least 100 carries this year, Kelley's -0.02 Rushing NEP per attempt was 25th.
