Blake Bortles

Jaguars will draft a quarterback to compete with Blake Bortles

The Jacksonville Jaguars will draft a quarterback, The Ringer's Mike Lombardi expects.

What It Means:

"Coughlin’s going to draft a quarterback," he said. "This is the perfect draft to do it." Lombardi went on to say the Jaguars need to admit their "mistake" and move on from quarterback Blake Bortles. "[General manager] Dave Caldwell was always looking through rose-colored glasses," Lombardi said of Bortles. "Coughlin doesn’t have those glasses." The Jaguars are near sure to decline Bortles' fifth-year option, making him a free agent at the end of the season.

Bortles had the 10th-worst Passing Net Expected Points per drop back this season among the 39 quarterbacks with at least 100 drop backs. As a team, the Jaguars ranked 24th in the NFL in schedule-adjusted Offensive Net Expected Points per play.
