Washington offered a five-year, $20 million contract to Kirk Cousins
Washington's offer to quarterback Kirk Cousins was for five years and around $20 million annually, according to ESPN's John Keim.
The $20 million annual salary had already been reported but this is the first mention of a five-year offer. Per Keim, the five-year extension would have been on top of Cousins' $23.94 million franchise tag for 2017, essentially asking him to take a paycut from this year's contract. The deal was also reportedly low on guaranteed money, which obviously wasn't going to fly. There were rumblings earlier this offseason that Cousins was interested in reuniting with former offensive coordinator -- now head coach -- Kyle Shanahan on the San Francisco 49ers next year when Cousins hits the open market.
Cousins earned the sixth-most Passing Net Expected Points (NEP) per drop back among the 39 quarterbacks to drop back at least 100 times in 2016.
