Packers believe Ty Montgomery is capable of being a lead back
Green Bay Packers running back Ty Montgomery has the "ability" to be a number-one option, believes head coach Mike McCarthy.
The Packers have yet to bring anyone in since Eddie Lacy departed for the Seattle Seahawks, leaving Christine Michael, Don Jackson and Aaron Ripkowski as the only other backs on the roster. Green Bay probably wants to use a committee approach in the backfield again next season, so they're more than likely going to add another body before training camp, but Montgomery should have the opportunity to secure the lead job if he can stay healthy. He could produce RB2 value in a high-powered offense.
Among the 56 running backs to see at least 75 carries last season, Montgomery finished in the top-10 with 0.08 Rushing Net Expected Points per attempt.
