Matt Flynn

Jets sign quarterback Matt Flynn

The New York Jets have signed quarterback Matt Flynn to a one-year contract.

What It Means:

Flynn will likely serve as the backup to Ryan Fitzpatrick while Geno Smith recovers from his jaw injury. Flynn has been unable to find a consistent role as he has been on four teams during the past four years. The Jets do not feel confident in rookie Bryce Petty as their backup quarterback.

The Jets ranked 23rd in our schedule-adjusted Passing Net Expected Points metric last season. Flynn recorded a poor -12.11 Passing NEP on only 18 pass attempts last year. Flynn will likely be released once Geno Smith returns from injury.
