Panthers' Charles Johnson to receive back surgery, out until training camp
Carolina Panthers defensive end Charles Johnson is undergoing back surgery, and will miss the entire offseason program.
Johnson will be ready for training camp, according to the Panthers' official website. Considering the 10-year veteran was just signed to a new two-year, $9.5 million contract only two weeks ago, the injury can't be too much of a concern. This is the first documented back issue for Johnson, who missed three games last season and seven the year before that for problems with his hamstring. He turns 31 in July.
Johnson tied for fourth on the Panthers last season with four sacks. As a team, Carolina was 9th in schedule-adjusted Defensive Net Expected Points allowed per play.
