Seahawks will be forced to cut Marshawn Lynch if he returns from retirement

The Seattle Seahawks may be forced to cut running back Marshawn Lynch if he decides to come out of retirement, ESPN's Sheil Kapadia believes.

What It Means:

Lynch will be owed $9 million if he comes out of retirement, a number which would take up a large chunk of Seattle's remaining $14.7 million cap space. The Seahawks could hold Lynch in an effort to extract a draft pick from the Oakland Raiders, who have been linked to Lynch, but doing so would limit their flexibility in the later waves of free agency.

Among the 44 backs with at least 100 carries in 2015, Lynch ranked 28th in Rushing Net Expected Points per attempt. His 9,112 rushing yards across nine NFL seasons currently ranks 37th all-time.
