Saints reach out to Patriots' Malcolm Butler
The New Orleans Saints and New England Patriots RFA cornerback Malcolm Butler have mutual interest in working out a trade and extension following Thursday's visit, NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports.
Per Rapsheet, the visit "went well." CSN New England reported two days ago that Butler had "warmed up" to the idea of playing in New Orleans. If the sides can agree to the parameters of a long-term deal, the Pats and Saints should be able to work out trade compensation.
Butler would help upgrade a New Orleans secondary that was third-worst in the NFL last season in schedule-adjusted Defensive Passing Net Expected Points allowed per play.
