Lance Dunbar

Rams sign Lance Dunbar for third-down work

The Los Angeles Rams signed running back Lance Dunbar, formerly of the Dallas Cowboys, to a one-year contract.

What It Means:

Dunbar spent the first five years of his career in Dallas, but he's now likely going to replace Benny Cunningham as the third-down man out of the backfield and as Todd Gurley's primary backup. Gurley has struggled in pass protection and as a receiver out of the backfield, but it's fair to blame some of that on the previous coaching staff. The 27-year-old Dunbar caught 16-of-24 targets in 13 games for the Cowboys last season.

Out of the 33 running backs to see between 20 and 40 targets last season, Dunbar ranked 20th in Reception Net Expected Points per target -- just one spot ahead of Cunningham.
