Brock Osweiler

Jets are team to watch in hunt for Brock Osweiler's services

Cleveland Browns quarterback Brock Osweiler a "name I'd watch" in the New York Jets' quarterback search, ESPN's Rich Cimini said.

What It Means:

The Browns are still holding out hope they can trade Osweiler but that's not going to happen. When Osweiler is inevitably released, the Jets could theoretically sign him for the minimum $775,000 with Cleveland covering the rest of his $16 million salary. Osweiler proved he isn't a franchise cornerstone but for a team that isn't close to winning, he'd make for an acceptable one-year fill-in. New York's other free agent options include Jay Cutler, Colin Kaepernick, and Matt McGloin. The Cincinnati Bengals' A.J. McCarron and Denver Broncos' Trevor Siemian have also been linked to the Jets.

Among the 39 quarterbacks to pick up at least 100 drop backs in 2016, Osweiler's was seventh-worst in Passing Net Expected Points per drop back.
