Patriots acquire Dwayne Allen from Colts
The New England Patriots acquired tight end Dwayne Allen from the Indianapolis Colts.
The Colts will receive a "late-round pick" from New England, according to ESPN's Field Yates. With the Patriots opting to let Martellus Bennett walk in free agency and Indianapolis re-signing Jack Doyle to a three-year contract, this trade makes plenty of sense. It wouldn't be surprising to anyone if Allen finally fulfils his athletic potential as a productive every-down player in a Bill Belichick-coached, Tom Brady-led offense. This also means Doyle will be in the TE1 conversation.
Among the 35 tight ends to see at least 40 targets last season, Allen averaged the most Reception Net Expected Points per target.
