Chargers release Brandon Flowers
The San Diego Chargers released defensive back Brandon Flowers.
Flowers would have been guaranteed $9 million on Saturday if he remained on the roster. His release opens up $7 million in cap space for the Chargers. The 31-year-old veteran ended last season on injured reserve due to a concussion and has a troubling history of brain issues, so it's possible Flowers has played his last down in the NFL.
San Diego ranked 10th in schedule-adjusted Defensive Passing Net Expected Points allowed per play this past season.
