Buccaneers re-sign Jazquizz Rodgers

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers re-signed running back Jacquizz Rodgers.

What It Means:

The deal will become official "barring any surprises," per Jenna Laine of ESPN. Rodgers was expected to field offers on the open market after turning in the best season of his career, but it sounds like he'll be back with the Buccaneers in 2017. Doug Martin is suspended for the first three games of next year, meaning Rodgers and Charles Sims will lead Tampa Bay's backfield at the start of the season.

Rodgers' 0.04 Rushing Net Expected Points (NEP) per attempt was 11th-best among the 42 running backs to top 100 carries last year. He produced significantly more value on a per-play basis than teammate and initial starter Doug Martin (-0.20 Rushing NEP per play).
