Tom Savage

San Francisco interested in Tom Savage if Dallas trades Tony Romo to Texans

Individuals around the league believe that if the Houston Texans acquire Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo, they would then trade quarterback Tom Savage to the San Francisco 49ers, according to Tony Pauline of Draft Analyst.

What It Means:

It's important to note that Pauline is purely speculating, but if Romo does wind up in Houston, the Texans aren't going to be able to dump Brock Osweiler due to the guaranteed money he's owed. That means Savage will likely be the odd man out and look for a better opportunity elsewhere. New 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan expressed significant interest in Savage back in January 2015 while he was offensive coordinator for the Cleveland Browns, per Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.

Savage and Osweiler put up identical -0.04 Passing Net Expected Points per drop back rates in the regular season, but Osweiler sustained that rate over 459 more drop backs than Savage.
