Free agent running back Adrian Peterson would "consider" giving the New England Patriots a discount, reports Karen Guregian of the Boston Herald.
It's common for an aging veteran to be linked to the Patriots, and with LeGarrette Blount set to hit free agency, this could be a nice fit. Head coach Bill Belichick is going to need someone to pound the rock on early downs while Peterson wants an opportunity for a ring before he's forced to call it a career. Blount led the NFL with 18 rushing touchdowns last season, so the soon-to-be 32-year-old (March 21) Peterson would make for an intriguing fantasy option in New England.
There were 88 running backs to notch at least 30 rushing attempts last year. Peterson earned -0.39 Rushing Net Expected Points per attempt, by far the worst rate among that group.
