The San Francisco 49ers released wide receiver Torrey Smith.
The move could clear up to $7.875 million in cap space if Smith is designated as a post-June 1 cut. The 28-year-old receiver finishes his two-year tenure in San Francisco with 53 total catches for 930 yards and 7 touchdowns over 28 games. Despite the disappointing run, Smith should still see plenty of interest on the open market for teams in need of a speedy deep threat.
Among the 95 receivers with at least 45 targets last season, Smith ranked fifth-worst in Reception Net Expected Points per target.
