Tony Romo T. Romo

Cowboys' Tony Romo could end up with Texans

There is "growing sentiment" that Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo could land with the Houston Texans, the Washington Post reports.

What It Means:

Despite rumors Romo could land in D.C. the Post's Mike Jones tweeted Friday that Washington flatly "don't want" him. The Texans could and should be different with Brock Osweiler and Tom Savage currently atop the depth chart, and a roster that may be one quarterback away from Super Bowl contention. Per the Post's Mark Maske, "Several agents and coaches and executives with other NFL teams said in recent days at the NFL Scouting Combine that they regard the Texans as the most likely destination for Romo." Added one high-ranking NFL official, "I don't think anyone in the league would be surprised to see that one happen." Romo landing there would be outstanding news for the fantasy outlooks of their pass-catchers.

Romo tossed -0.04 Passing Net Expected Points (NEP) per drop back on 127 drop backs in 2015, but generated 0.16 Passing NEP per drop back on 684 such plays in 2014, so it's tough to gauge expectations for what will be his age-37 season. Savage and Osweiler put up identical -0.04 Passing Net Expected Points per drop back rates in the regular season, but Osweiler sustained that rate over 459 more drop backs than Savage.
