Bengals believe in A.J. McCarron's talent

Cincinnati Bengals backup quarterback A.J. McCarron is "a very valuable piece of what we do," director of player personnel Duke Tobin said.

What It Means:

"He plays a very valuable position, backup quarterback," Tobin said, "and you’re always one play away from going to your backup quarterback." With two years of cheap control left -- McCarron will be just a restricted free agent after this season -- the Bengals likely will need to be blown away by an offer to move him, but it is at least possible that offer comes in.

On 131 drop backs in 2015, McCarron posted 0.14 Passing Net Expected Points per drop back, the 12th-best mark among the 46 quarterbacks with at least 100 drop backs that season. He completed 66.4 percent of his 119 pass attempts for 854 yards while throwing 6 touchdowns and 2 interceptions.
