Trumaine Johnson receives franchise tag from Rams again
The Los Angeles Rams assigned the franchise tag to defensive back Trumaine Johnson.
This was an expected move and will pay Johnson over $16 million per year, making him the NFL's highest-paid corner annually. The Rams let Janoris Jenkins walk last offseason, so letting their top corner go twice would have been ill-advised. Look for both sides to work towards a long-term contract. Johnson regressed a bit last season, but new defensive coordinator Wade Phillips will look to get the 27-year-old's play to live up to his new deal.
The Rams ranked 18th in opponent-adjusted Defensive Passing Net Expected Points per play in 2016.
