Colin Kaepernick opting out of deal with 49ers, will become free agent
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick's new agents have informed teams he will be opting out of his contract this week, reports Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
This doesn't come as much of a surprise, but Kaepernick can't officially opt out until Thursday at the earliest. Despite a plethora of on-field issues and perceived off-field distractions, the 29-year-old quarterback is likely going to see multiple offers this offseason with a handful of teams looking to make changes under center. The New York Jets have been mentioned as a possible destination.
Kaepernick's Passing Net Expected Points per drop back ranked 28th among the 39 quarterbacks to drop back 100 times last season.
