Adrian Peterson

Cowboys will be interested in Adrian Peterson

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones "would pursue" Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson if he's still available by the March 9 start of free agency, reports NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

What It Means:

Rapoport says Jones wants to "pair" Peterson with Ezekiel Elliott in the Cowboys backfield. It remains possible that the Vikings retain Peterson with a restructured contract, but he's currently scheduled to become a free agent on March 9. This seems like an unlikely scenario.

There were 88 running backs to notch at least 30 rushing attempts last year. Peterson earned -0.39 Rushing Net Expected Points per attempt, by far the worst rate among that group.
