Panthers place franchise tag on Kawann Short
Carolina Panthers defensive lineman Kawann Short was assigned the franchise tag.
What It Means:
The non-exclusive tag is valued at about $14.77 million. Short would have been a hot commodity on the open market, but the Panthers weren't interested in allowing that to happen. With Star Lotulelei and Vernon Butler set for extensions in the next season or so, it's unlikely that Carolina will commit to Short long-term.
The Panthers finished last season ninth in opponent-adjusted Defensive Net Expected Points allowed per play.
