Cowboys interested in Josh McCown for backup gig

The Dallas Cowboys and free agent quarterback Josh McCown share "mutual interest," reports ESPN's Ed Werder.

What It Means:

Werder acknowledges that any decision on McCown won't be made until the Cowboys figure out what they're going to do about Tony Romo. Following his release by the Cleveland Browns earlier this month, McCown expressed his desire to join a contender where he can be a mentor to a younger quarterback, so the Cowboys are a great fit. The 14-year veteran will turn 39 in July.

Among the 39 quarterbacks with at least 100 drop backs last season, McCown was 31st in Passing Net Expected Points per drop back. In five games (three starts), he completed 54.5 percent of his 165 pass attempts for 1,100 yards through the air with 6 touchdowns and 6 interceptions.
