Eagles make sense as destination if Chiefs cut Jamaal Charles

Kansas City Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles could be an option in free agency for the Philadelphia Eagles if he is released, ESPN's Tim McManus speculates.

What It Means:

Charles is set to count almost $6.2 million against the salary cap, and the Chiefs can save all of that by releasing him. Considering he is coming off two lost seasons due to knee issues and counts $6.2 million against the cap, it is almost a given Kansas City will move on at the cost of. If they do, the Eagles make a lot of sense. Head coach Doug Pederson was his coordinator in Kansas City, and they need backfield help even if they do not cut Ryan Mathews.

The Eagles' backfield accrued 0.01 Rushing Net Expected Points (NEP) per attempt this season, the 16th-best rate in the league. Charles has attempted just 83 rushing attempts over the last two years, but has earned 0.08 Rushing NEP per carry over that span of time.
