Bears looking to get draft compensation for Jay Cutler

The Chicago Bears have "actively started seeking" a trade partner for quarterback Jay Cutler, reports Adam Schefter of ESPN.

What It Means:

The Bears will reportedly look to receive some sort of draft compensation for Cutler, but it remains possible that they wind up cutting him. There's no guaranteed money left on his deal, so perhaps the Cleveland Browns or New York Jets will be desperate enough to make an offer. Cutler's play has continued to regress in recent seasons, and he will be 34 in April without a full 16-game campaign on his resumé since 2009. New England Patriots quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo has been named as a potential replacement for Chicago, but he figures to be in much higher demand than Cutler this offseason.

Among the 39 quarterbacks to top 100 drop backs last season, Cutler's Passing Net Expected Points (NEP) per drop back ranked fourth-worst.
