Chiefs don't plan on picking up Nick Foles' option for 2017

The Kansas City Chiefs are expected to decline quarterback Nick Foles' team option for 2017, reports Mike Garafolo of NFL Network.

What It Means:

This would make Foles a free agent, and there have been some recent rumblings that he could be a sneaky bet to start somewhere come Week 1. Foles was abysmal with the Rams in 2015, but he won his only start with the Chiefs this past season and completed 65.5 percent of his 55 pass attempts across three appearances.

Despite the precision, Foles' 0.02 Passing Net Expected Points (NEP) per drop back was significantly below the NFL average for the year (0.10). On 59 drop backs in 2016, he earned 1.30 Passing NEP.
