The San Diego Chargers are expected to pick up defensive back Jason Verrett's fifth-year option, per ESPN's Eric D. Williams.
Verrett is worth every bit of his $8-million option, but health has been an issue. He's played in only 24 games over the past three seasons, and his 2016 was cut short after four games due to a torn left ACL. There's some obvious risk, but the Chargers will likely retain their promising young corner.
San Diego ranked 10th in schedule-adjusted Defensive Passing Net Expected Points allowed per play this past season.
