Jets looking to acquire Jay Cutler

The New York Jets are a "possibility" to acquire Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler, CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reports.

What It Means:

The Jets hired Jeremy Bates as their new quarterbacks coach on Wednesday, which could indicate a move in the offing. Bates was Cutler's quarterbacks coach with the Denver Broncos, and then Bates was brought over to Chicago in 2012 to work with Cutler again. On top of Bates, the Jets also currently employ former Bears teammates running back Matt Forte and wide receiver Brandon Marshall. It could be a match. The Bears are fully expected to release Cutler over the next month.

Among the 39 quarterbacks to top 100 dropbacks this season, Cutler's Passing Net Expected Points per dropback ranked fourth-worst.
