Dwight Freeney will play Super Bowl for Falcons with calf injury
Atlanta Falcons defensive end Dwight Freeney will be playing with a calf injury in Super Bowl LI.
Freeney sat out Thursday's practice before returning to a limited session on Friday. He wasn't listed on the Falcons' final injury report and should play his usual snaps at right end. The Falcons are locked into starting Freeney after losing Adrian Clayborn to a season-ending biceps tear. Atlanta still has Vic Beasley, but if Freeney is slowed by his calf injury, the Falcons could have trouble putting pressure on the New England Patriots.
A bolstered pass-rush didn't help the Falcons enough to keep them higher than 11th-worst in opponent-adjusted Defensive Passing Net Expected Points per play this year.
