Patriots' Jimmy Garoppolo is top priority for Chicago this offseason
The Chicago Bears are planning to make a "strong, concerted" effort to acquire New England Patriots quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, reports Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports.
Garoppolo is "far and away their top offseason priority," La Canfora says, adding that the Bears have done "extensive work" on all 94 of his career passes. However, La Canfora believes it's unlikely that Chicago would give up the third overall pick in the draft for the Patriots' QB2. The Bears are right to be moving on from Jay Cutler, but there is obvious risk that comes with investing significant draft capital in a career backup. The Cleveland Browns and Houston Texans are also believed to have interest in Garoppolo.
If Garoppolo were eligible, his 0.44 Passing Net Expected Points (NEP) per drop back would have ranked first among quarterbacks this season.
