Tom Savage and Brock Osweiler to compete for Texans' 2017 starting job
Houston Texans quarterback Tom Savage will compete with Brock Osweiler for the starting job, owner Bob McNair expects.
"The challenge is what can we do with what we got," McNair said, all but ruling out a run at Tony Romo or Jimmy Garoppolo. The Texans are expected to stay in-house at quarterback. Savage struggled in two starts last year but will be given a chance to beat out Osweiler in training camp. The Texans should also target a quarterback early in the draft.
Savage and Osweiler put up identical -0.04 Passing Net Expected Points per drop back rates in the regular season, but Osweiler sustained that rate over 459 more drop backs than Savage.
