Carson Palmer hopeful he'll return to Cardinals, not certain

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Carson Palmer indicated that he is hopeful but not committed to playing football in 2017, reports Arizona Central's Dan Bickley.

What It Means:

"I guess nothing is ever official until it is, but I'd like to play if my body responds the way I hope," Palmer texted Bickley. Palmer essentially confirmed an NFL Network report via the text message after Ian Rapoport reported Palmer feels "tired, worn down, and trying to see how his body responds" after "the most physically trying season of his career." The Cardinals are hoping to get an answer from Palmer by mid-February so that they can adjust their offseason approach accordingly. Palmer turned 37 in December.

Palmer looked sluggish at times in 2016 but finished with 26 touchdown passes and 4,233 passing yards. His 0.11 Passing Net Expected Points per drop back ranked 21st out of the 39 quarterbacks to drop back at least 100 times in 2016.
