Tony Romo

Broncos are interested in Tony Romo only if Cowboys release him

The Denver Broncos could have interest in quarterback Tony Romo if he becomes a free agent, Mike Klis of 9News Denver reports.

What It Means:

The Broncos aren't interested in trading for Romo, but could be open to signing him if he's released this offseason. The veteran quarterback is due a reasonable $14 million next year by the Dallas Cowboys but the Broncos are obviously convinced they can get him at a lower rate if he hits the open market. Assuming he still has something left in the tank, Romo would make a fine stopgap for Denver while first-round pick Paxton Lynch continues his development.

It's unclear how good Romo is these days, so it remains to be seen what the Cowboys could get for their former star if they're able to finagle a trade. In 2015, Romo tossed -0.04 Passing Net Expected Points (NEP) per drop back on 127 drop backs, but generated 0.16 Passing NEP per drop back on 684 such plays in 2014.
