Browns closing in on new deal with Jamie Collins
The Cleveland Browns and impending free agent linebacker Jamie Collins have made "significant progress" towards finalizing a new deal, reports Jason La Canfora of CBS.
The Browns would like to avoid using the franchise tag on Collins, according to general manager Sashi Brown. The 27-year-old linebacker was traded to Cleveland from the New England Patriots in the middle of the season.
Collins recorded 92 tackles, 3 sacks, 3 deflected passes, 2 interceptions and 2 fumbles forced this past season, and the Browns finished second-worst in the NFL in Adjusted Defensive Net Expected Points allowed per play.
