The Kansas City Chiefs are committed to quarterback Alex Smith as their 2017 starter, head coach Andy Reid said.
"Do I still think we can win with Alex?," Reid asked rhetorically. "Yeah, we were right there." Smith will almost certainly be back under center for a fifth season in Kansas City. Smith has made no progress as a Chief, stubbornly minding the store while trying to avoid mistakes at all costs. With Smith going on 33, the Chiefs at the very least need a plan-of-succession in mind.
Smith's game manager ways led him to a 0.14 Passing Net Expected Points per drop back, just above the league average of 0.12. This was 16th-best among 39 quarterbacks with at least 100 drop backs.
