Steelers' Martavis Bryant waffling on commitment to football
Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Martavis Bryant told his agent he "didn't really want to play anymore" at one point during his season-long suspension.
The troubled receiver reflected on his past in an interview with Sports Illustrated, admitting that he didn't take his rehab seriously at first and even considered walking away from the game. Bryant has since changed his tune and says he's been working out harder than he ever has. The 25-year-old has spent most of the last year training in Nevada while helping out as an assistant coach at nearby Green Valley High School. Due to his repeated violations of the league's substance abuse policy, Bryant will have to apply for reinstatement before he's able to return to Pittsburgh.
As impactful as he can be on any given play, Bryant is still inconsistent both on and off the field. In 2015, his 0.66 Reception Net Expected Points per play ranked 39th out of 55 receivers with at least 75 targets. He was only slightly better than the washed-up Andre Johnson in this metric that year.
