Cardinals' David Johnson (knee) has just sprained MCL

Arizona Cardinals running back David Johnson has been diagnosed with a sprained MCL, and doesn't need surgery.

What It Means:

Johnson's injury looked absolutely brutal on replay, but he's escaped with the best-possible news. He needs "just" six to eight weeks of rehab. Johnson finishes 2016 as the yards from scrimmage leader (2,118). Johnson's monumental workload will be a concern down the line, but still only 25, he'll be ready to go as fantasy's best running back option in 2017.

While supremely impressive on the fantasy gridiron, Johnson wasn't nearly as efficient in Rushing Net Expected Points (NEP) in 2016 as he was in his rookie year. His 0.00 Rushing NEP per attempt comes in 19th among the 42 backs to attempt at least 100 rushes this year.
