Rams requesting interview with Saints' Sean Payton
The Los Angeles Rams will seek permission to speak with New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton about their coaching vacancy, Larry Holder of the New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.
General manager Mickey Loomis is open to trading Payton. Loomis and Payton met for about an hour after Sunday's season finale to discuss the coach's future. Payton seems to be linked with a move away from New Orleans every offseason, but this one might actually have some legs. The Rams have already been linked with New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels and Jacksonville Jaguars interim head coach Doug Marrone, among others.
Payton has compiled top-10 in schedule-adjusted Offensive Net Expected Points per play every year since his hiring in New Orleans, including eight top-3 showings in this analytic out of 11 years.
