The Tampa Bay Buccaneers to release running back Doug Martin this offseason, Pewter Report’s Scott Reynolds expects.
Martin’s future is up in the air coming off a career-worst year. His suspension voids all guaranteed money from his $7 million base salary next season, giving Tampa a chance to get out of his deal. With Charles Sims injured and entering a contract year, the Bucs could look to draft a running back.
Among the 68 running backs with at least 50 rushing attempts this year, Martin's -0.20 Rushing Net Expected Points (NEP) per attempt ranks fourth-worst. His career-worst Rushing NEP per attempt prior to 2016 was -0.10 in 2013; this year has been doubly as ineffective for Martin.
