Chargers' Antonio Gates plans to play in 2017
San Diego Chargers tight end Antonio Gates said he plans to return for his 15th NFL season.
Gates is just two touchdowns shy of Tony Gonzalez' record for touchdowns by a tight end, but he is also signed through next season, so it makes since for him to give it one more year after a tough one in 2016. He will be 37 years old next season.
Among tight ends who have seen at least 85 targets this season, Gates ranks fifth in Net Expected Points Per Target at 0.65. He has six touchdowns in 2016.
