Jets place Bryce Petty (shoulder) on injured reserve

The New York Jets placed quarterback Bryce Petty (shoulder) on injured reserve, ending his season.

What It Means:

The Jets announced Petty has a torn labrum in his left (non-throwing) shoulder, which would have hurt Petty's chances of protecting himself in Week 17 against the Buffalo Bills. The Jets will turn back to Ryan Fitzpatrick, in all likelihood, because they never intended for 2016 second-round pick Christian Hackenberg to play a snap this season.

Coming into Week 16, Petty had earned -0.13 Passing Net Expected Points (NEP) per drop back on 141 drop backs. Fitzpatrick had earned -0.01 Passing NEP per drop back. Both are well below-average options.
