Jets bench Ryan Fitzpatrick for Bryce Petty

New York Jets quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick has been benched, and Bryce Petty will start the final four games of the season.

What It Means:

Petty came on in relief of "FitzMagic" on Monday evening. Fitzpatrick was legitimately good in 2015, but reverted to his old ways this season, playing an absurd brand of streetball that resulted in far too many turnovers. The Jets have no plans to play rookie Christian Hackenberg down the stretch. Hack will only see playing time if Petty gets hurt. A team with quarterback problems would normally try to contrive any possible reason to get a second-rounder on the field, but Hackenberg isn't close to ready.

Our models project Petty as the 29th-best fantasy quarterback this week, with 192 passing yards, 1.01 touchdowns and 0.92 interceptions on 31 attempts.
