Bengals lose Giovani Bernard (ACL) for the year

Cincinnati Bengals running back Giovani Bernard suffered a torn ACL in Week 11 against the Buffalo Bills, reports Tom Pelissero of USA Today.

What It Means:

A.J. Green (hamstring) was lost early in the first quarter, so Bernard's injury managed to slip through the cracks. He finished with 12 touches in the loss, including eight targets in the passing game. It's a significant loss for a Bengals team who is quickly falling out of the playoff hunt. Jeremy Hill is going to see a lot more work in Cincinnati's backfield moving forward, while Rex Burkhead should sap some of the passing-down usage previously given to Bernard.

Bernard finishes his 2016 campaign with 91 rushes for 337 yards and a pair of touchdowns, earning a career-low 3.7 yards per carry. He added 39 catches for 336 yards and a score, as well. Among the 37 running backs with at least 70 carries entering Week 11, Bernard ranked 29th in Rushing Net Expected Points per play.
